Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Our Policy and Practices

As a recruiting firm engaged in executive search, Pender & Howe has a deep social responsibility to recognize and champion Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in every recruiting assignment.

We value all differences, regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, social class, physical ability or challenges, religious values, political beliefs and more.

We search for the best available talent, without bias – while recognizing barriers and inequalities one might face in the industry.

Empowering Inclusion: Leading DEI Practices from Within

Our DEI Practices begin with our own internal employees. Our company leaders are committed to improving the employee experience and extending DEI practices to all search candidates. We actively seek to remain informed and promote inclusion practices - whether this is sponsoring an event for underrepresented groups, receiving DEI training, or using AI to mitigate unconscious biases in the hiring process.

Training and Education

We provide ongoing training and education to employees to help them better understand diversity, equity, and inclusion issues.

Inclusive Workplace

We work to create a workplace culture that is welcoming and supportive of all employees. We strive to accommodate each and every employee’s needs and create a safe environment to amplify their voices.

Community Engagement

We work to support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts outside of our business. This includes partnering with local organizations, sponsoring events, and supporting employee volunteer efforts.

Recruitment and Hiring

We actively seek out diverse candidates for all job openings and strive to eliminate any biases in our hiring process. We ensure that job postings and outreach efforts are inclusive and reach a wide range of candidates.

Client/Candidate Engagement

We strive to ensure that our services are accessible and inclusive to all. We educate our clients on the importance of diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices and work with them to develop strategies to attract and retain diverse candidates.

Embracing DEI: Our Global Commitment and Local Responsibility

As a proud member of Kestria, our reach currently spans 40+ countries and 90+ cities and counting. This includes 50+ nationalities, 40+ languages spoken and 52% female-led businesses. Being part of this multicultural, multilingual alliance has allowed us to access to a more diverse talent pool, and improve our global fluency. Therefore, both locally and globally, we not only support but also ensure inclusion practices.

Despite our global connections, Pender & Howe operations and employees are based in North America. Therefore, we also pay close attention to Truth and Reconciliation practices in Canada and the US. We acknowledge the land our offices are located on unceded Indigenous lands. Today, the cities where our offices are located are still the home to many First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.

We are committed to ongoing progress and regularly evaluate and adapt our approach to ensure we are meeting our objectives. By implementing these strategies, we believe we can create a more inclusive and equitable workplace, not only for our own organization but for our clients as well.

Further, we seek to understand and actively support the DEI Practices of our clients. We represent their values in the marketplace when acting on their behalf during the search process.

We are committed to being a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion leader in the executive search industry.
